Jazz Brunch 2009Enthusiastic support was the attitude of all who took part in this year's event which one guest described as the best ever. Certainly the Gittisham Hall Jazz Band improve with age, like a good wine, and their music was greatly appreciated.Furry Dance BarbecueA select group of twinners were joined by hosts Anne Cornish & Jackie & Jeremy Martin to barbecue in sunshine - the persistent rain having ceased just hours before. A very pleasant evening followed by magnificent fireworks at the harbour at 10pm.Chairman's Chomp26 members and guests once again enjoyed the hospitality of the Christine & Ken and the culinary skills of the Cottons and the Committee, to say nothing of the superb paté and Calvados from Biéville-Beuville.Visit to Biéville-Beuville30 year anniversary and inauguration of Rue Edmund Jupp see report Cocktail PartyTwo dozen members enjoyed the delights of Francoise & Andrew's hospitality, garden & croquet lawn, Heather & Ken's cocktails, Sue's baking and glorious sunshine on Sunday 19 April 2009 AGM February 2009on Friday 6th February was a most convivial as well as useful social gathering of 23 members.Good ideas for engaging with a wider section of the Lympstone community were noted whilst the latest plans for our visit to B-B at the end of April were shown. Apres Noel 200911.1.09Two dozen members attended this social gathering in the Sailing Club and a most enjoyable time was had. Jazz Brunch 0823.11.08This was clearly a great success in as much as tickets were sold out, the serving of the full English breakfast went as well as, if not better than before and the music of the Gittisham Hall Jazz Band was enjoyed as much as ever. The audience certainly were enthusiastic for a repeat performance in 2009! An added bonus is that two new-to-the-village couples expressed an interest in joining our Association! Furry Dance bbq 082.8.08 pictureGarden Party13.7.08 Jill and Clive Wilson once again hosted our 'Bastille Day' Garden Party in their delightful garden and orchard. Ticket price included a cream tea with Bucks Fizz whilst a bountiful assortment of home made pies, tarts and cakes ensured no one went hungry. A smaller attendance this year in spite of no repetition of last year's rain did not detract from the friendly and relaxed afternoon. Many thanks to all those who toiled before during and after the event and to those who supported us.Hosting8-11.5.08Never mind the quantity, note the quality! The number of French may have dropped to 27, but beautiful weather, good planning organisation & execution by a team of people too numerous to list here but which trebled the size of the Committee, produced a marvellous 3-day event. Our friends from Biéville-Beuville arrived midday Thursday and swiftly dispersed to their respective host families. On Friday, Lympstonians filled empty seats on their coach as we spent a relaxed few hours at Lyme Regis including an excellent lunch at the Harbour Inn. As hosts this year - we return to Biéville-Beuville next year - our main party piece in the Village Hall on Saturday evening was a Dinner, Entertainment and Dance with the theme of The Moulin Rouge, Toulouse Lautrec and Paris of the 1890’s Heather Redding sang Edith Piaf and ‘Les Girls’ of the Committee danced the Can Can in full regalia Not a pretty sight but entertaining – apparently! Biéville-Beuville’s twinning President Jean Badaire, announced a forthcoming formal mayoral invitation to Lympstone Parish Council & Lympstone twinners to meet with them and the twinners of Margetshöchheim in Biéville-Beuville this autumn Twinners' Tuck-In6.4.08Based on the roast pork filled buns of Jo & Brian but fantastically amplified by the home and its views of our hosts Christine & Ken at Courtlands Cottage// and enjoyed by over 30 members and guests, this was a very successful and enjoyable event. A couple of conversations also resolved some questions concerning the hosting weekend and the pork, salads and desserts were delicious. Thanks to one and all. Wine Tasting23.2.08Don't forget the cheese! A good gathering (23) of members and some guests met in Lympstone Sailing Club to sample six wines from France, Italy and Australia. Members who had brought the various wines each gave introductory comments on them. Three hours passed very easily so I guess it was a success. Après Noël 20086.1.08A very good gathering of nearly three dozen members and guests brought delicious and ample quantities of hot & cold main courses & sweets Apart from the fare, entertainment was in the form of a quiz on images of east Devon, devised by previous Chairman, Brian Cotton, a Lucky Dip Raffle, by Christina Thompson, and a slide show of images from various twinning events of the last five years by the new Chairman Many thanks to all who contributed so well and especially to those who helped toclear up afterwards. It was a very enjoyable event. AGM December 200719.12.07Brian Cotton stepped down from the Committee and the Chairmanship passed to Richard Crisp. See Committee top>> |
