Math Club About The Loma Verde Elementary School Math Club: The Math Club is in its inaugural year at Loma Verde and was initiated by first year principal Eileen Smith. The Math Olympiad provides some focus for the club; the real objective is to promote problem solving strategies and flexible thinking. The club is open to 4th and 5th grade students enrolled at Loma Verde and currently includes 15 students. The Loma Verde Elementary School Math Club met after school Tuesday, January 13 to take part in the third Math Olympiad Contest of this years’ series. Ten students took part in the second contest in December 2008 with another round of outstanding results. Three Loma Verde students had perfect scores in the five question contest and 7 of 10 scored three or better correct answers. Nearly 59,000 students from around the world participated in the second contest with two percent perfect scores and only 18% with three or more correct answers. Honors Academy A prestigious opportunity to increase academic learning time focused on a diverse range of programs tailored to the needs of participating students. Grades 2nd – 5th Purpose: To provide students with the support required to master the key grade level standards and perform at their full potential. Schedule: Hours: 8:30 a.m. - Noon Dates: January 17th, 31st; February 17th, 18th, 19th; March 7th, 21st; April 4th, 14th, 15th, 16th. Running Club New this year! If you are interested in helping we would love to have you! You can either come on Monday or Friday when it best works for you or make a commitment to come regularly! The times are: Mondays 11:45-12pm for 1st and 2nd graders; 12:15-12:35 for 3rd-5th graders; Fridays 12:15-12:35 for 3rd-5th graders We will be
holding races once a month during lunch and tracking their progress throughout
the year. If you have any

Want an opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and get some exercise? We need a few parents, especially Dads, to help referee student soccer and football games during lunch recess. We need volunteers for one hour from 11:45 A.M. TO 12:45 p.m. one day a week. We also have students that love to jump rope and enjoy an audience. This is a great way to see all of the happy faces of our children. Please stop by the office today and sign up.
