F.A.Q./Tips

Attendance

Q:  I have heard the school loses money if my child is absent. How can I help this?

A:  Each day a child is absent, Loma Verde loses about $37. We understand that children get sick and need to stay home. One way to help the school is to bring them by the office in the morning and sign them in. If they are on campus in the morning, even if for a few moments, we will be able to get our funding. If you plan on being out of town for 5 or more consecutive days, there is an option to have an independent study packet made for you. This ensuers that your child keeps up with the classroom activites as well as helps us recieve our funding. All work needs to be completed up to standards and will be kept on file at the district office.

BULLYING: The bystander’s role

Q:  My child came home from school upset because some children were picking on a classmate and wouldn’t let her play with them.  What advice should I give my daughter?

A:  Tell your daughter that her classmate was being bullied -   and that she has the power and the responsibility to help stop it!

There are several things she can do. She could start by standing up to the bully and saying something like, “That’s not nice.”  Then, she might ask the child who is being bullied to join her in a game or sit with her at lunch.

Also, remind your child to report bullying to a teacher or other adult when she sees it.  Let her know this is NOT tattling, but a way to help someone who is being hurt.  Bullying is not permitted in any way at Loma Verde, physical or emotional.

Bullying Complaint forms are available in the office and in the attachment section below.
