Unit 1
Classify: group things by how they are alike
Investigate: design and conduct an experiment
Condensation: the process by which a gas is changed into a liquid
Evaporation: the process by which a liquid is changed into a gas
Freezing: the process by which a liquid is changed to a solid
Gas: matter that spreads out to fill all the space of its container
Melting: the process by which a solid is changed to a liquid
Liquid: matter that flows and takes the shape of its container
Mass: how much matter is in an object
Matter: anything that has mass and takes up space
Physical Change: a change in the size or shape of matter
Solid: matter that has a shape of its own
Volume: the amount of space that something takes up
Water Vapor: water that goes into the air
Unit 2
Adaptations: adjustment to environmental conditions
Adverse: causing harm
Behavioral: anything that an organism does involving action and response to stimulation
Coloration: characteristic quality
Camouflage: concealment by means of disguise
Compare: observe how things are alike
Contrast: observe how things are different
Dormancy: not actively growing but protected (as by bud scales) from the environment
Erosion: when water or wind wears something down
Hibernate: to be or become inactive or dormant (usually in the winter)
Model: an example for imitation
Migrate: to pass usually periodically from one region or climate to another for feeding or breeding
Weathering: to expose to the open air: subject to the action of the elements
