Workshop Participant Quotes 2009

Most NGO managers deal with human resources issues on a regular basis. However, many often do not receive training on how to effectively support the most important asset that an organization has—its people.

This workshop will focus on key areas of human resources: recruitment, interviewing, new employee orientation, compensation, salary benchmarking, performance management, and employment legal issues.

Participants will learn the answers to questions such as:

·         What should be included in job descriptions and recruitment ads? What are best practices in new employee orientation?

·         How do we determine position salaries and how do we remain competitive?

·         What employment-related legal issues should I be aware of?

·         What are the key concepts of performance management?

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This workshop is designed for HR managers and others with human resource responsibilities including office and finance managers and country and program directors. No advance preparation is required.

WHAT TOPICS WILL BE COVERED?

Through case studies, lecture, participatory exercises, key HR topics will be presented on: recruiting, interviewing, orientation, compensation, legal issues, goal setting, rewards and motivation, and performance management.

OUTCOMES

Participants will leave with:
  • An understanding of how to put important HR concepts into practice in their own organizations;
  • Guides, templates, and sample forms to take back to their organizations;
  • Have the opportunity to meet colleagues from other organizations, share approaches to human resource issues, and form networks for future discussions.
