I managed to track down a ferrari dealer that had some original 60's parts.
Steering wheel
This is the steering wheel I decided to go with- Nardi Anni 60
before any changes.
Before any significant changes to the nose.
The old square opening and large deep air scoops (too big!) I decided to fix the gill to an elliptical oval shape instead of the more square opening.
Dec 8. Today I finished the air scoops on the underside of the nose and reduced the size of the topside air scoops. To create the underside scoops I had to make a mold of the scoop shape I wanted. The air scoop mold is shown.
These pictures also show the oval intake finished. Next steps will include reducing the circular intakes to a 3 5/8" hole, re designing the top air scoops and any fiberglass touch ups.
Mouth fixed. Next I will fix the oversized holes on either side.
Besides the ugly black primer, the oval mouth turned out great

Mouth
You can see the underside scoops here. These will be painted flat black.
Primed nose
Dec. 22, 2007. After fiberglassing the tubes in place of the really large holes on each side and a lot of sanding I added some primer to get an idea of how close I am.
Nacelle
Here us a picture of the removable Nacelle. I wanted to simulate the original design. This bolts directly into the dash. The holes for the steering column, lights and gauges still need to be cut. The face plate is also removable.
The goal:
This is the goal. Re-Create Ferrari's rare and exotic 1962 GTO but make it a convertable. With a little luck, a lot of fiberglass and some old molds to begin with we approach this enormous project. I am standing in front of my father's GTO he made 15 yrs ago. He created molds off of an alpha kit, he then modified the hood and doors. I found his old molds and started making my own body parts. I wanted to make a convertable that had matching curvature on the rear tub unlike some kits for sale that square off the rear wheel curvature.
I also noticed that the front end of the fiberglass body had a lot of incorrect features including a square nose, large circular openings, missing underside scoops and oversized top air scoops. Along the way I decided to make a GTO replica dash with removable Nacelle, replica chrome hood pins, plexi clear hood air scoops and retro fit an LS1 V8 with a six-speed transmission. I still have a lot to go but the project is moving along.
Sorry for the poor page layout, I need to better organize the order of the pics.
Here are the molds laying on the datsun unibody, pretty rough! When I started with these molds they were in very poor condition.
Here is my 2003 ZO6 Corvette.

Dash molds I created
I decided to fix the gill to an elliptical oval shape instead of the more square opening. The front air scoops seemed too large as well.

Air Scoops
I decided to create the bottom air scoops to match the original
Air scoop fiberglass mold
I created this simple little mold using paper and duct tape. It ended up working really well.
the inside of the front bonnet
I thought this was an interesting view of iniside nose upside down. It gives perspective of the air scoops and mouth opening.
GTO replica dash
I spent too much time coming up with this design, but after all the work I was happy with the outcome.
Rear section before I fiberglassed it in.
Fiberglass knitting
I had to knit the new fiberglass piece with the old. I used about 10 screws and a lot of wire to hold it tight for the fiberglassing
More knitting
Getting all the lines to match up and keep the contours correct was tricky!
more cleanup
seams are coming together
Rear Section
THisi s a picture of the rear section after fiberglassing together.
Rear Fiberglass Tub
Here is a picture of the rear tub without the added section.
Gas tank
In this picture you can see where I removed the spare tire section and welded in shock tower cross members (in black)
Making Room
To accomodate the 15" wheels I had to cutback and enlarge the rear wheel wells. I painted them with a black antirusting paint afterwards.
Almost bare
No fiberglass to be seen anywhere
Fuel cell
Here are a few pictures of the Fiberglass dash with the gauges, steering wheel and indicator lights. It is coming along real nice!
