Biography
Luci Briginshaw, originally from Oxford, is a soprano and pianist who has won praise for her “attractively fearless musicality, unusual artistic personality and engaging and energetic delivery. *” Particularly suited to coloratura and dramatic coloratura roles such as Lakme, Olympia, Ophelia, Violetta and Die Konigin der Nacht, Luci’s smooth and supple delivery of bel canto repertoire by Bellini, Rossini and Donizetti has also delighted audiences over the past few years. Her recital repertoire spans from Purcell to Argento, with a particular affinity for English Song especially Britten, Vaughan Williams and Rebecca Clarke. Luci studied Music and Italian at King’s College London, gaining a distinction for her Advanced Performance final recital, and winning the Adam Prize for the highest recital mark in her year. She then went on to gain the Licentiate Diploma of the Royal Schools of Music with distinction, and to complete the Morley College Opera Performance Course in 2010. In 2011 she travelled to Italy to attend a masterclass with Mirella Freni at the Centro Scuola di Bel Canto in Modena. At Morley College she performed the complete roles of The Queen (Magic Flute), Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica) and Olympia (Tales of Hoffmann). Operatic roles since then have included Adele in Die Fledermaus (Brent Opera), Clorinda in La Cenerentola (Brent Opera) and The Queen in The Magic Flute (Mantissa Opera). She has a longstanding relationship with the Medici Choir and Brandenburg Soloists, featuring as soprano soloist in several Central London concerts including Bach’s Mass in B Minor and St Matthew Passion, Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor and Haydn’s Nelson Mass. In 2011 she was soloist for the Beethoven Mass in C with the Orchestra of St Johns at Dorchester Abbey. She is also a keen busker – regularly wowing audiences with coloratura arias and rousing Puccini showstoppers at Covent Garden courtyard and the Edinburgh Festival. Engagements for 2012 include a solo recital at City University, a UK tour, and London recording session, of brand-new chamber opera, My Mother Told Me Not To Stare by Martyn Harry with Hullaballoo Theatre (in a variety of singing roles and as a pianist), and a fortnight at the Buxton Festival in the chorus of Bampton Opera’s revival of Portugal’s The Marriage of Figaro.
