Luba Vikhanski has a diploma in simultaneous translation from the University of Paris (Paris III, Sorbonne Nouvelle) and an M.A. in journalism from New York University’s Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program. After graduating from NYU in 1989, she worked for five years as a medical journalist in Manhattan, mainly as a staff reporter at the Medical Tribune News Service, syndicated by The New York Times. She has been a freelance contributor to The New York Times, Nature Medicine and The Jerusalem Post, and has written four books: A Well-Informed Patient’s Guide to Breast Surgery (Bantam Doubleday, 1992), which won the 1993 Rose Kushner Award of the American Medical Writers Association; In Search of the Lost Cord: Solving the Mystery of Spinal Cord Regeneration (The Dana Press and Joseph Henry Press, 2001); Immunity: How Elie Metchnikoff Changed the Course of Modern Medicine (Chicago Review Press, 2016); and, with Daphna Joel, Gender Mosaic (New York: Little Brown Spark, and London: Octopus Publishing Group, 2019), which has been translated into eight languages. Luba works as a science writer at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.
