Let's Start Talking Matsudo

2009 was our first year for the Let's Start Talking (LST) program in Matsudo, Japan.  Debbie and I had worked with the LST program in Tachikawa, but hoped to try out the program in Matsudo too, in order to reach out to our neighborhood using Bible and English.  Our planning for the summer program began months before, making arrangements with our landlord to rent an apartment for the 2 girls who would come.  Then as the time drew near for the team's arrival, we asked the church members to donate what they could to keep the costs of materials for the apartment at a minimum.  Many responded and contributed items from their own homes.

A budget was set up for the entire program and we worked hard to keep things within these limits.  Debbie spent many hours cleaning up the apartment and the ladies did what they could with the time they had available.  Advertising brochures and posters were prepared and were distributed personally by the members to friends and neighbors in the church vicinity.  The route to Narita was studied and finally the day came to drive to Narita to pick up our team of 2 girls from Pardue University in Indiana.
