Empowering Students for Successful Lives.
The State Board of Education first awarded the West St. Francois County R-IV a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant for the 2007-2008 school year. This  five year 21st CCLC grant establishes three 21st Century Community Learning Center sites serving students and their families.

 

 

    The purposes of 21st CCLC grants, as established by federal legislation, are:

  • To provide opportunities for academic enrichment and tutorial services to help students, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools, to meet state and local performance standards in core academic subjects;
  • To offer students a broad array of additional services, programs, and activities to reinforce and complement the regular academic program of participating students; and
  • To offer families of 21st CCLC students opportunities for literacy and related educational development.


  Program Design focuses on:

  • Meeting identified deficiencies in reading and math through use of an engaging curriculum and filling the gaps in academic success rates.
    • Sessions/activities appropriate to student’s age and ability level
    • Engaging, hands-on activities
    • Academic enrichment in core academic areas
  • Additional services, programs, activities to further reinforce and complement students’ regular academic program
    • Youth Councils at middle school sites for leadership and participation in program planning
    • Team building, conflict resolution, mediation skills, recreational activities
    • Career connections
  • Site specific opportunities for literacy and related educational development will be provided for families of participating students
    • Interactive activities, workshops, family night literacy activities, counseling and referrals
    • Parents learn importance of early literacy skills and how to assist literacy development of their children
    • Literacy activities with libraries and media centers
