March 1st Update

Teachers' Job Action will (sadly) commence on Monday and last through Wednesday. During this time, your child should continue to make progress with their P3 project, update their speeches and spend time on Khan Academy revising the orange blocks to review previously completed math work.

In addition, students should update their webpages and check to see whether webquests have been adequately completed and all journals done. There is ALWAYS something that could be worked on and improved. The laptop is NOT a glorified gaming tool, but if you're using it as such, you are not doing what you COULD or SHOULD be doing. Think about it.

Journal: I've landed in a strange place ... (100+ words)

DEAR - read Gregor to chapters 5-7 - or more depending on your reading speed.
Thurs Feb 16th (thanks for the date correction, Sara!)
So, it's another day of limping about the place but I hope to be well enough to hobble in tomorrow (Friday) for our Friday documentary feature in. For now, please do the following:

Journal: 'Ow, it hurts!' Write 100 words using this prompt.

On This Day in History: 3 new things you learned about today's date.

DEAR - Gregor is getting into all kinds of adventures. Read on for 20 mins today.

Book Project: Whether you have read it before or not, take a closer look at the book cover. Redesign it as you would like it to be. Be artistic! Use PUBLISHER if you intend to create a book-jacket
(front/back design) or PAPER if you're going to hand draw something. Make sure you include the BLURB on the back. Remember what BLURB means?

I loved some of the Powerpoints I received on 'Roaches, Rats 'n' Bats. Did you do yours? Please complete!

Your P3 projects could probably use some time well spent on them.

The NEW weekly schedule is up (see below). This will be changed each week to accommodate changes. Each day is subject to change, too, just like ideas!
----------------------------------------------------

PARENTS! Got a question about HOMEWORK? Go to the homework page! If you're just looking for quick links to spelling and math sites, please click on either word.

Students! Use your PLANNERS and your own WEBSITE to keep up to date.
Parents! Question your child! Students should use their planners to jot down important details, events and any additional work required. If you NEED me to write something in their planners, I will do so, unless it's already somewhere on this site (which it probably will be).
All of you: SHARE communication!
Remember: I'm right here - email me, check my site, send me gifts ... anytime.

Need (or want) to send me an email? Please use THIS one:
ISiddique@sd42.ca

LIONS, remember what R.O.A.R. means? Use the links at the bottom of the page to select the appropriate subpage(s) for enhancing your daily learning! Go for it!

PARENTS and STUDENTS! Please take a few moments to familiarize yourselves with the very useful website below for parents, kids, teachers ... everyone who has the opportunity to go online. Let's help to educate and to protect our kids from relevant issues such as cyberbullying and inappropriate net use.

Quick Email Reminder: go to the Windows Live ID sign in at https://login.live.com/login

Windows Live ID = FirstName.LastName@edu.sd42.ca
Password = 19Dec99

(no spaces - use your OWN date of birth in exactly the same format - i.e. two digits for the day, Capital letter for month with two lower case letters (Jan) and the two digit year)

PARENTS! Read the attached document at the foot of the page. Send me an email confirmation and any questions you'd like to ask. I'll do my best to answer them, but please be patient as the Laptop Program establishes routines in the coming days/weeks. Thanks!

PARENTS (again!) ... I have a vision for this class. I want them to have a fully functioning website using Googlesites (like this one) by Christmas which will be their one-stop-shop for all their learning. This website they will create will include multiple pages, each curriculum linked, with attachments made up from their ongoing assignments. However, we came across a slight sticking point explained in the letter attached below. Please read it and then send me an email confirmation with any concerns you might have. I'd appreciate your response. A nil response means it's all OK. After all, the students will benefit greatly from having a cool website ...

and on that very same note .... here are your kids' websites (in development, of course):

(Mia's site)
(Jaydis' site)
(Joe's site)

(Ty's site)
(Brendon's site)

Math puzzle: 150 miles.

I was travelling at 30mph at a rate of 20mpg, so I was using 1.5 gallons every hour for the driving itself.
I was also losing 0.5 gallon every hour. In total, I was using 2 gallons every hour.
Therefore to use all of the 10 gallons I started with, I travelled for 5 hours.
5 hours at 30mph is 150 miles.

Divergent Thinking - Encourage Creativity in Your Kids!

OK, people, so this is it. Pay attention and follow the instruction below to the letter!

Each morning, noon and night you must visit www.sidweb.ca and navigate to this page. It's easy to do since you're all Laity View Lions and this page is the ROAR page! All your assignments for the week (and beyond) will be posted by SUNDAY night or EARLY Monday morning. There will be specific daily and weekly tasks to complete, too, so please follow all guides and advice very carefully. READ EVERYTHING! If you're not sure about something, ASK (me or your parents) and things will become clear(er).

Here's what I expect from you all:

Math - go to the separate Math page - it's called 'Mathmagicians'. Here you'll find the lesson/theme for the week and several links to websites you MUST visit. Each week you will be asked to learn a new math concept. It might be as simple as the regular TIMES TABLES or more complex ALGEBRA. You will be led to sites that allow you to work at your own pace and comfort level but with tests, games and quizzes that teach you to become better at math.

Science - for your science needs, please visit the page called 'Little Einsteins'. Like the math page, it will give you a weekly, sometimes daily, task to complete with a topic (or topics) to learn about. Click on the links provided and follow the instructions. Part of the science page will be dedicated to teaching you 'How to (insert topic here)' improve your technology skills, including website design using Googlesites as your base design tool.

Language Arts & Music - for things English and Arts related, visit the page called 'Shakeyourspeare'. Here you'll be given projects and tasks ranging from writing your up-to-date 'Autobiography' to reading and responding to texts we will read together. There will be all kinds of links to use to help you become better readers and writers and help you become better aquainted with various art forms and artistic expression. Enjoy!

French - for the basics in French language and culture, visit 'Salut!' You'll find video and text links for basic (and advanced) French vocabulary and language learning. Want to speed ahead? Follow the tutorials for language proficiency in no time at all!

Everything Else: as it says on the tin, the 'Everything Else' page will guide you through DPA, Health and Wellness and, you know, 'stuff' about life.

In addition, you'll be invited to sign up with an awesome website called www.Prezi.com . You'll be able to do cool stuff like this (click the links):

YouTube Video

Any questions? Yes? Good! Now visit the homepage
www.sidweb.ca and follow the ROAR page link. It'll bring you back here to get you started! Remember, you'll need to follow all page and subject links for the best chance of success! Good luck and let's go Lions!

Oh, and here's a heartwarming film that reminds us all about the need for validation:
