Modeling the effects of community health record bank linked e-Meds and eRX technologies on incidence of  medication errors in greater Louisville?

1.  Problem:   How can LouHIE-linked e-Meds and eRX technologies reduce medication errors in greater Louisville?

2.  Research (Literature Review)
define a medication error
define % medication error for Louisville
define medication reconcilation  - paper based, electronic based.
Define eRX

3.  Method
system dynamic modeling...using two collaborative group processes (light and shadow side)

We began process with informal dialogue.  Then participated in eRX workgroup led by Dr. Austin, and in informal complexity group convened by Judah Thornewill and including Dr. Humes and Dr. Esterhay.  Developed SD model...went through 5 iterative development steps...asked better questions.  identified key data points.

4.  Analysis

The result of the process was the SD model shown in Figure ___.   Key elements of  this are... Key findings are...
- Conservative assumptions, 60% penetration of eMeds by 2012, reduce medication errors by 42% for 1.2 million people.

5.  Discussion/conclusion
Limitations.

Further studies and new questions.

Using the systems dynamics model to demonstrate each point, hopefully moving in a consistent manner.  And the usual disclaimer:  This is an iterative process, and I would expect changes as we move forward.
