I've been lotusbiosm online for years now, because back in the bad old days of dial-up and AOL, you could only have 10 letters in your screen name.  My mother always called me "Lotus Blossom" as a nickname (among countless others), but "lotusblosm" was already taken on AOL.  Their font was sans serif, so a capitol "i" looked like a lowercase "L".  See: I, l.  Two letters, but they look the same.  So I was LotusBIosm.  I kept that screen name as I traveled around, since I knew that a) other people knew it and b) it was highly unlikely to be taken by anyone other than me.  This allowed me a relatively consistent online name/presence.  I'm the kid who always sat in the same seat in class and got annoyed if you took it.  I like consistency.
