The Los Angeles Catholic Lawyers Association promotes personal, professional, social, and spiritual growth among its members. Any Catholic lawyer may join the Association at no charge by going to www.lalawyers.ning.com and following the sign in procedures. The Association website is interactive with forum discussions, attorney profiles, photos, events, blogs, etc. All Catholic lawyers and judges are encouraged to join and become part of a growing Catholic legal community. We welcome all Catholic lawyers to particpate in the comaraderie of other lawyers who share similar values. The Association co-sponsors the annual Red Mass at the Cathedral, holds an annual one-day retreat, and presents continuing legal education classes at the annual Spirit and Law Convention. It also encourages a sharing of information regarding pro bono activities among its members and the formation of attorney groups on the parish level. Its chaplain is Msgr. Charles Chaffman, Judicial Vicar of the Los Angeles Archdiocese.
One Day Retreat on Saturday, May 19, 2012 The Los Angeles Catholic Lawyers Association (LACLA) will hold a one day spiritual retreat for Catholic Lawyers from 9:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m. on May 19, 2011, at the Immaculate Heart Retreat Center at 3134 Waverly Dr., Los Angeles, CA.
We are espcecially fortunate this year to have Fr. Jim Clarke as our presenter. Fr, Clarke is the Director of Spiritual Formation at St. John’s Seminary, Chair of the Spirituality Commission of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and Associate Spiritual Director at the Cardinal Manning House of Prayer for Priests. He received his master’s in Divinity from St. John’s Seminary, his master’s in Counseling from Trinity College of Graduate Studies, and his master’s in Religious Education from Fordham University. He also received his Ph.D. in Mythology with an Emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. The theme of the Retreat Day is "Developing a Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life." Fr. Jim tells us "In this retreat we will look at different ways of fostering a deepening spirituality within the context of our lives." Using biblical, anthropological, and theological insights, Fr. Jim will help us to focus on the important themes of Catholic Spirituality within the context of our personal and professional lives. The cost of the day is $65, which includes a welcoming continental breakfast and a full service lunch. Mass will be held at 3:30 p.m. See the registration form below.
