In the summer of 2008, we partnered with organizations in Portland to offer
local food lunches to over 300 youth, adults and elders in Portland. We provided arts,
nutrition, nature and reading programs after lunch. Food was
provided by local farms and cooked by Local Sprouts Community Food and Learning. Kids were invited to help cook and learn about local food. The Community
Building Collaborative helped implement the program by coordinating
collaborative partnerships and after lunch programs. We also worked
with local elders to be mentors for youth in the program. We collaborated with agricultural organizations including the Cultivating Community, Winter Cache Project and New American Sustainable Agriculture Project and with community based organizations including the Kennedy Park Youth Soccer League, Munjoy Hill Neighborhood Organization, PROP’s Parkside Neighborhood Center, and A Company of Girls. |
