The Novels of Louisa May Alcott

Calling all early teens who love to read, and especially those who want to write. A national treasure is disappearing from our print purveyors! Look around for books by American author Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) in the nearest Barnes & Noble, and you'll find Little Women--only one of the seven major novels LMA wrote for young adults, and by some assessments not her best. Luckily, LMA still resides in many public libraries and she's found a niche in cyberspace.

If you put in the effort to track her down, you'll be glad you did since, besides being a writer of rare gifts who never forgot what it was like to be young, she had a finger on the pulse of her time. The great movements of the late 19th century, including Abolition, Women's Suffrage, Transcendentalism, and Utopianism all come alive in Alcott's writings, where they're treated with her special brand of wisdom and humor.
