La Leche League is an international organisation founded in 1956 by seven women who wanted to help their friends who were interested in breastfeeding. Its mission is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, education, information, and encouragement and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and the mother. Read more about La Leche League Each La Leche League Leader is a mother who has breastfed and who enjoys helping other mothers to do so. A La Leche League Leader is required to complete a comprehensive programme to familiarise herself with most aspects of breastfeeding and also to develop counselling skills. Once accredited, Leaders offer practical information and moral support to mothers both one-to-one and through monthly group meetings. Our Leaders are all unpaid volunteers. ![]() The LLL West Sussex Group was set up in 1996 as LLL Haywards Heath—we have since changed our name to reflect the wide area the group covers.
We have accredited Leaders who provide breastfeeding information and support to mothers across West Sussex and who organise meetings to enable breastfeeding mothers to meet one another, share experiences and access information. The group has an extensive library of books for loan to mothers and a wealth of other information on offer.
