Stand-up Fighting vs Grappling & Floor Work

                                KARATE WITH GROUND WORK?

While 90% of our training is "stand up" fighting, we also practice on our ground work, or rather getting the opponent on the ground.  Our philosophy is to stay standing during a fight, but  we  integrate takedowns, sweeps,  throws and even some grappling into our instruction.   Many of our techniques allow the attacker to throw the opponent to the ground but remain standing ready for the next opponent.   These techniques are found in our upper katas but most karate schools do not frequently practice them or not at all.  These makes us unique as a traditional karate school.

                                MMA VS KARATE

In the highest levels of competitive full-contact fighting, karate is consistantly one of the most practiced and successful styles of martial art.    Jujitsu, judo, and MMA styles often may specialize in taking a stand-up fighter to the ground were he is "helpless."  However, we specialize in learning to avoid take downs from this type of opponent and if it does go to the ground we are far from "helpless".  By integrating bits and pieces of other styles such as judo, we greatly expand our practical application.  A foundation of good ground work accompanied by unparalleled striking techniques makes for an incredibly strong fighter.
