This means that it impairs various aspects of typical development and lasts a lifetime.  

The umbrella term “Autism” refers to the Pervasive Developmental Disorders, also known as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), including Autism, PDD, PDD-NOS, and Asperger’s Syndrome.
