Jessica had been away for a while, so I was not able to meet with her. However, upon her return she informed me that Xing Guo had decided to abandon the nCloth simulation research. This leaves me with nothing directly to focus my work. She mentioned that if I was interested enough I could attempt to continue the research on my own. Yet I don't really know the basics of the project, or where to even begin. Instead I have started to help out more in the motion capture lab with any random project that they have on their plate at the moment.
Justin in gone for the week, but before he left he moved the cameras closer to the center of the room, in order to prepare for a project that Sophie is working on. We had an actor, Sam, come in for an audition. We wanted to see him act with his, in order to find if he would be suitable for the capture. We video taped him waiting for a bus stop, acting angry, and opening a present. Yet we did not use the infra red light cameras to capture him yet. Sophie is working with the motion of hands, and how people react to whether they are in sync or not. She plans on take motion capture data and then altering it from the actual movement by a couple seconds. And seeing how people react to the difference.
Kate also came down to the motion capture lab for a day, in order to attempt to capture her Wii controllers. We tried to tape the controllers on to the subject using the horse tape. It worked for keeping the controllers on the body, however the the data received during the capture was not sufficient because of the small capture space available by the moved in cameras.
This week as well we had a group of high school students come in. The were visiting Carnegie Mellon and the motion capture lab was part of their tour. Mo provided them with a short demonstration and lecture about the purposes of the lab and how it worked.
