Phyllis A. Wilson was stricken with polio when she was just eighteen months old. In and out of hospitals for long periods of time as a child, this is her story of the struggles and triumphs she has experienced from living with polio. Polio was a constant fear for all of America and abroad during the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s.

With no known cause, thousands had died across the country before the polio vaccine was discovered in the 1950s. Phyllis gives some insight into what it is like to live with this crippling disease, as well as a brief history of the disease.
