LIUF XIV

Location

UCL is located in the vibrant area of Bloomsbury, famous as the haunt of Edwardian writers and poets.  Situated at the heart of London, one of the World's truly great cities, UCL is a leading university in a huge range of fields, having produced 20 Nobel prize winners and with former students as diverse as Mahatma Gandhi and Coldplay.

The tournament takes place in our Somers Town sports hall, a large and modern facility with space for up to 13 pistes.  We are located on Charlton Street, a 5-10 minute walk from the main UCL campus and centrally located near several major mainline and London Underground stations.

Nearest Railway Stations
  • London Euston (5 minutes)
  • Euston Square London Underground (5 minutes)
  • St Pancras International (and King's Cross Station and London Underground) (10 minutes)
If you are coming from within the UK, check out http://www.nationalrail.co.uk
If you are coming from France or Belgium, have a look at http://www.eurostar.com.  With approximately 2-hour journey times from Paris and Brussels, competitive prices and no waiting on either end, the Eurostar is often more pleasant than flying.

There are also excellent London Underground connections via the Victoria, Northern, Circle, Hammersmith + City, Picadilly and Metropolitan lines to all of London's major Rail Terminals.  See http://www.tfl.gov.uk to plan your journey.

By Air
London has four major Air Terminals; Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, as well as the smaller London City Airport.  Getting to the venue is simple from any of these airports, but the three easiest are probably Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted.
  • From Heathrow, take the 'Heathrow Express'* train (15 minutes) to London Paddington, and then take the Circle or Hammersmith + City Line London Underground to Euston Square.  Alternatively, take the Picadilly Line from Heathrow to King's Cross St Pancras and walk 10 minutes (cheaper, but longer).
  • From Gatwick, take the 'Gatwick Express'** train (30 minutes) to London Victoria, and then take the Victoria Line London Underground to Euston Station.
  • From Stansted, take the 'Stansted Express'*** train (35 minutes) to Tottenham Hale, and then take the Victoria Line London Underground to Euston Station.
If you are looking for low-cost flights, Easyjet operates from Luton and Gatwick.  Ryanair also has an extensive network based out of London Stansted, but we have had bad experiences with them in the past, and have ended up paying more for our baggage than for our seats!  If cost is no object, Heathrow and Gatwick are both served by a huge range of quality airlines and are both conveniently placed.

By Car
Don't - seriously, just don't!  Parking in London is next to impossible, but if you are set on driving you may want to check out http://www.eurocarparks.com.

Also - be aware that UCL lies on the border of the London Congestion Charging Zone.  On weekdays, every driver passing through this zone must pay an £8 fee by the end of the day, or they risk paying huge and extortionate fines.  Far better to leave the car at home, we say!
