Mission Statement Dedicated to serve its members and the community in the advancement of
their math, science, and engineering disciplines. To provide our members
with professional exposure, leadership opportunities, scholarships, community
involvement, and a desire for the pursuit of the highest level of education.
Chapter OriginLos Ingenieros is a UCSB student organization founded in 1978. The
origin of Los Ingenieros began when nine Latino engineering students
decided to form a support group to share common goals and aid each other
in developing the skills needed in the professional workplace. Since then, Los Ingenieros has grown to an organization ten times the original eight members
and has expanded to include all science and mathematics majors, as well
as non-Latino students. The goal of Los Ingenieros is to serve its members
in the advancement of their math, science, and engineering education.
Our organization is also dedicated to promoting these fields to students
of all school levels ranging from elementary through high school through
our various outreach activities. Los Ingenieros also focuses on its members. Membership development is
accomplished by providing professional exposure, leadership opportunities,
workshops and scholarships to assist members in their personal and professional
development. These goals are met through conferences, career fairs, specialized
workshops, industry speakers, and by encouraging participation in our
various committees.
Our involvement with U.C.S.B. consists of hosting several high school
visitations, promoting events sponsored by the university and the College
of Engineering, participating in the Engineering Student Council and working
with El Congreso (Chicano/Latino Educational Opportunity Program). We
also work very closely with the MESA Engineering Program to assist underrepresented
students in their academic endeavors. Our organization believes all of their achievements to be major accomplishments.
Among our biggest accomplishments are gathering enough resources to send
several members to out of state conferences, maintaining a high membership,
providing several guest speakers and quality workshops. We have also reached
out to several pre-college students in the community and throughout the
state, as well as holding annual banquets, and social functions for our
members.
