Literacy Source provides many pre-service and in-service training opportunities for our volunteers. You will periodically receive emails about upcoming trainings that allow you to click and register. We encourage you to sign up for any of the trainings that are of interest to you! See our Training Schedule at the bottom of the page linked.
Many volunteers also utilize online training resources to support their instruction. Check out the resources below for more information:
- The ProLiteracy Education Network provides free online training courses, lesson planning resources, and other information for literacy volunteers, in addition to resources for adult learners. Their online courses are self-paced and relevant to the goals and needs of adult learners.
- The Literacy Information and Communication System (LINCS) is a national provider of professional development and research related to literacy. LINCS gathers and disseminates reading, writing, and mathematics resources that can improve instruction.
- The System for Adult Basic Education Support's Curriculum and Instruction page is designed to help you develop or enhance your instructional materials.
- The Adult Literacy Wiki is a source for discussions and resources on a number of topics ranging from adult basic literacy, to assessment, to learning disabilities.
- The National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy provides Teaching and Training materials on their website to link research in the field with instruction.
- The Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center has an Adult Literacy Tutor Training workshop online. You can view the training modules and corresponding resources on this website.
