Parish music ministers were invited to gather and become familiar with a variety of approved Mass settings so that they may use them with their assemblies. Read more
During the course of 2011, much of the English-speaking Church began to use a new translation of the Roman Missal. Also known previously as the Sacramentary, the missal contains all the prayers used by the Church during the celebration of Mass.
Parish Implementation Process
- In accordance with the timeline proposed by the bishops, OLMC began to implement a new sung Mass setting, namely Mass Shalom (3rd edition), originally written by the late Br Colin Smith cfc, and adapted for the new texts by Paul Mason. Other Mass settings have, and will continue to be introduced since.
A parish music workshop was conducted to introduce music groups to new and revised Mass settings
- Extensive formation of parishioners was provided through the Liturgy Links columns in our parish bulletin
- Some formation of parishioners took place during Mass. This was in the form of short video clips from the resource Become One Body, One Spirit in Christ
- Seminars were also conducted during the period of transition from the old texts to the new
- OLMC has now used the new translation for the entire celebration of the Mass since it received its new edition of the Missal in October 2011.
