The Band History

Founded in 1996 as a group of friends pulled in by Malcolm, who had booked the hall but didn't have a band (he did have a persuasive manner, incriminating photographs etc.), to help out at a couple of ceilidhs for Lismore Rugby Club in Edinburgh, in which he was involved.

The band gelled, enjoyed the experience, got asked to play at other events and the rest, as they say, is history.  That's also how the name and crest came about; the rugby club was founded in 1901, not the band.

It has since evolved into its current format.  The members are still friends and that band is fortunate that in spite of its ad-hoc beginnings, it has in its line-up top rank musicians, who play for dancing, be it fiddle, accordion or drums.  While our focus is on music to dance to we also play concert sets at accordion clubs etc.  All the musical arrangements are by Morag and Alison while Ian decides which pots and pans to bang at various points.  Our choice of music ranges from contemporary tunes by Freeland Barbour, Alison Hiley and others, to traditional tunes pulled from wherever we find them.

The band's latest CD, The Lismore Hop, was recorded and released in 2006 and spent 18 weeks at the top of the charts, before being knocked off the number 1 spot by Bob the Builder.  (Actually that bit isn't quite true but we were CD of the week on the Moray Firth Radio "Sounds Scottish" programme).
