In Ann Arbor, the Center for the Childbearing Year offers a wealth of resources for new and expectant families, including childbirth classes, doula resources, health care information, breastfeeding support, and much more.

Also in Ann Arbor, Pregnancy Arts offers doula services, as well as a full range of perinatal services, and has worked successfully with HypnoBirthing clients.

Nearby in Okemos, the Greenhouse Birth Center, a birthing center providing prenatal and birthing care, offers childbirth classes as well. 

Parenting 

Hand in Hand Parenting is an organization with resources to support connected, joyful parenting. Hand in Hand had good ideas you can use to approach challenges such as tantrums, whining, and irrational fears in children. The Hand in Hand newsletter gives inspiring stories of parenting challenges and successes.  

Our Children, Ourselves is an online journal with a compassionate perspective on many of the struggles of parenting, big and small -- from your child's whining complaints, to the issue of parental self sacrifice.  You can start with the article about pregnancy, to see if you like the site.

How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and How to Listen so Kids Will Talk by Faber and Mazlish was a life-changing book for me. In particular, their perspective on how to foster self-esteem in your child was completely new and effective. The authors' website has information about all of their books and programs.
