| OGES ChoirThe Oak Grove Elementary School Choir is a wonderful opportunity for a child to learn about vocal technique, singing and blending their voices with others, reading music, and performing. This year, the 4th and 5th grade choir will meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:40 until 8:10 and will have several performances throughout the school year, such as the Veteran’s Day program, the school-wide Christmas program, the spring concert, awards day, and possibly even perform at the Summit around Christmas time. If your child chooses to be in choir, they will be making a commitment for the entire school year. All-County ChoirThe Oak Grove Elementary School Choir is open to all who wish to participate. Members of the All-County Choir, however, will be auditioned. The All-County Music Festival is a program put on by the Jefferson County School System every year. The festival consists of a high school/middle school choir, an elementary school choir, and a band, each consisting of around 500 students. The 15 students chosen from Oak Grove Elementary will be required to learn the 6 songs for the performance (which we will learn in Oak Grove Choir), to attend 2 field trips for area-wide rehearsals of the All-County Choir, and to attend the All-County Music festival on Thursday, November 15th at 7:30 at the Boutwell Auditorium in downtown Birmingham. If your child is chosen for the All-County Choir, more information will be sent home in the future with details concerning the performance and field trips. *Every All-County Choir representative from Oak Grove must be a member of the Oak Grove Elementary School Choir. GLOW!Drum Decorating Contest! 4th grade students can pick up their bucket on Tuesday, September 3rd from the music room. There are only a limited number of buckets available, so they're on a first come, first serve basis. Any bucket can be decorated with black and neon paper to be entered to win a free Glow! T-shirt. Drums must be turned in by September 18th. GLOW! Program The glow in the dark music program will be performed by 4th and 5th grade students this year. Usually, only 4th graders perform, but due to inclement weather the night of last year's Glow! program, 5th graders have the option in participating in it this year as well. The program will be on Tuesday, October 23rd at 6:30pm. Students are to wear their Glow! T-shirt or a black shirt with black pants. White gloves are optional.
