Portraits

How is a portrait painting different from a photograph?  Well, a photo captures one moment in time.  But a painting is a work of art, and has an entirely different quality.  In order to create an oil portrait, the artist meets with the subject several times, does a lot of sketches, experimenting with various poses, lighting situations, and settings.  The artist gets to observe the subject as he or she moves, talks, negotiates the spaces in which he or she feels comfortable.  Then the artist prepares several sketches and presents her ideas to the client.  Only when both artist and client are comfortable and happy with the artist's proposal does she begin to paint.  So a beautiful oil portrait is a collaborative experience between artist and client, something to treasure for a lifetime.  Wouldn't you love to have one of yourself or a loved one, perhaps to commemorate a special occasion?

Portraits available in both oils and pastels, starting at $250.  Contact the artist for more information:  barblipkin@aol.com.
