February 3-5, 2012
Come join us in the The Land of Big Fun for our first event of the
new year! There will be combat, crafting, candlelight, cooking of
fantastic feasts, and the coming together of the old and the new. We
hope you all will join us!
The theme for this year's Lion's Tourney is Imbolc.
Imbolc is an early period Celtic celebration of the beginning of spring,
of the new greenery pushing through the still frozen earth, of the
sun's fiery warmth returning, the birth of calves and lambs, the
beginning of birdsong, the warmth of hearth and home, the start of new
things.
We hope you will join us for this fun filled event, as it is the people who truly make each event such an enjoyable experience!
At this juncture of the old year and the new, we are seeking to honor each of those ideas in our actions and activities.
There
will be much heavy fighting to celebrate the Lion's of Oldenfeld and
all they bring to our Barony. Also, in the spirit of collaboration,
there will be a team competition (with a bardic twist) worked into the
rapier and archery tournaments of the day. The Schedule page will have
more details as they become available.
For those wishing to celebrate the hearth and home
we will have interactive classes during the day. Please see the Schedule
page for details on each class and what to bring for participation.
Lunch at this event is not included in feast, but will be
a fundraising activity for the Gulf Wars soup kitchen. It looks to be a
tasty way to support our kingdom at the wars. See the Feast page for
Lord Eoin's delicious ideas.
In the evening we will have a fantastic feast
created by Lady Athelyna de Oldenfeld followed by merriment, and maybe
even dancing! Check the Menu page for information on the courses. Please
contact Lady Athelyna should you need to discuss dietary restrictions.
As Imbolc is a celebration of the new greenery on
earth, we are seeking to honor the earth by keeping down on our level of
waste at this event. Please bring feast gear for all meals. We will
endeavor to have a way to clean your dishes so they can be reused as
needed. Also, keep a look out for the recycling bins around the hall.
In the spirit of celebrating the new and honoring
the future of our Barony and Kingdom, we are encouraging as many new
members and young members as possible to volunteer to help with the
event. Event staff is primarily newer members supported by wonderful
veterans. Please contact autocrats Oeyen or Braya if you are interested
in giving of your time for any aspect of the event.
