Trey's "Sweet'n'mild" BBQ Sauce

A tangy sauce with a light spicy kick, good on any meat, mashed potatoes, or white rice.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons salt
  • 4 tablespoons black pepper
  • 4 teaspoons chili powder
  • 4 cups ketchup
  • 2 cups white vinegar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 large red onion -- diced and sauteed in 3tsp of butter or olive oil
  • 1 jar sorghum molasses
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 dash cayenne pepper 
Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan. Bring to a rolling boil, reduce heat and simmer for 1-1/2 hours, stirring every 10 minutes or so.  Store refrigerated in glass or disposable plastic containers.
