The Linlithgow Farmer's Market is essential to our goals as a convivium as it serves to connect local farmers, bakers, brewers & producers with the public. Held on the Vennel (just off Linlithgow's High Street, beside the library) on the 4th Saturday of each month we try and have presence at most markets. We are there to promote upcoming events, attract new members and answer any questions about Slow Food from the public. Our primary goal, however, is to add enjoyment and value to the market itself. We invite chefs to host cookery demonstrations based on produce taken from the market, hand out recipes designed to inspire and encourage people to imagine the impact that the "Think global, shop local" philosophy, which underpins the Scottish Farmer's Market network, could have, for the world & themselves.
News for All Stallholders - From 31st September '09 onwards We have just made arrangements with the worlds leading supplier of compostable, disposable tableware; Vegware. A leading proponent of sustainable yet disposable products they are big fans of both Farmers Markets & Slow Food. As such they are offering a 12.5% discount to stall-holders at the Linlithgow Farmers Market & our other event parteners. On a very sunny day - rare in Linlithgow - we provided samples of wild garlic soup, prepared by Carol Sutherland, and wild garlic pesto, prepared by Alan Wilson, using recipes supplied by Catriona Staddon of Hyndberry, and bread supplied by Dujardin Patisserie
Much interest was generated in use of a readily available, in season, supply of wild garlic, and the soup and pesto were well received. |

A well supported and enjoyable day. Michael and Rebecca prepared Nettle Soup, recipe to follow in Downloads, and bread from our local patisserie, Dujardin. This was much appreciated by the visitors to the stall, and an additional 20-30 folk put their names down to be added to our burgeoning mailing list. The gazpacho version from early in the morning, was superseded by the warm version, once the council supplied the promised generator, but did not dampen the spirits of the providers or consumers. |

We were back at the Farmer's Market on Saturday the 24th of October. Committee member Harry Knox & his wife Heather provided tastings of carrot and coriander soup and sold tickets for the Beer & Pie Tasting at Platform 3 on 27 October.
The soup went down well and a number of donations were received. The Beer and Pie tickets also sold well, to the extent that we had 31 sold for the event.

The September Farmers Market was fortunate to be bathed in lovely, if somewhat watery, sunshine with only the occasional gust of wind tugging at our leaflets. Catriona & Alan guided people through a tasting of a whole series of chutneys, including some donated by members. It was also the first time we got to showcase the brand new leaflets from Slow Food UK & gave up some stall space to our friends over at Linlithgow Aspires. The market itself was a triumph, well attended and with a great selection of stallholders; Tarelgin Farm Foods & Smokehouse - Smoked Fish, Meats & Pates from this family farm in Ayrshire Chrystal's - Wonderful Traditional Hand-Made Scottish Shortbread from Helensbourgh Island Cheese Company - Delicious selection of cheese; plain, smoked & flavoured from the Isle of Arran Nethergate Larder - Rare breed pork, bacon, lamb & beef from Nethergate Farm in Ayrshire Eastern Twist - Glasgow based purveyors of delicious Indian ready meals & snacks, made from local produce Olives & Thingz - Based in Greenock, they are arguably the best supplier of classic deli products in Scotland Erincroft Bakery - Wonderful bread, cakes & pastries from this bakery in Callander, Perthshire. Splendid Soups & Such - "Home-made soup without the hassle" as well as chutneys, dips & other goodies from this Troon based cook. Cedar Cottage Country Food - Fantastic free range, native breed, pork & sausages from the Enterkine Estate in Ayrshire Alexander Fruit & Veg - A great selection of seasonal veg And for the non foodies... Mulligan Publishing - A local artist doing some wonderful work across a variety of formats (his cards are stunning!) Caurnie Soaperie Scottish Opera - Advertising their autumn & winter season of performances Jade's Jewels - A local artist showcasing her inventive and colourful jewellery. |

We're back at the Farmer's Market on Saturday the 26th of September. Our convivium leader, Catriona Staddon & committee member Alan Wilson will be there to answer your questions, sign you up as members & take reservations for upcoming events. Catriona will also be doing a cookery demonstration on how to produce a delicious seasonal chutney and you will get a chance to try a selection of chutney produced by members & supporters of Slow Food Linlithgow. As usual we will try and blend this with some of the produce from the market itself & give you some dinner inspiration to take home.
We've also had confirmation of the stallholders (confirmed at time of writing) who will be in attendance; Tarelgin Farm Foods & Smokehouse - Smoked Fish, Meats & Pates from this family farm in Ayrshire Chrystal's - Wonderful Traditional Hand-Made Scottish Shortbread from Helensbourgh Island Cheese Company - Delicious selection of cheese; plain, smoked & flavoured from the Isle of Arran Nethergate Larder - Rare breed pork, bacon, lamb & beef from Nethergate Farm in Ayrshire Eastern Twist - Glasgow based purveyors of delicious Indian ready meals & snacks, made from local produce Olives & Thingz - Based in Greenock, they are arguably the best supplier of classic deli products in Scotland Splendid Soups & Such - "Home-made soup without the hassle" as well as chutneys, dips & other goodies from this Troon based cook. Cedar Cottage Country Food - Fantastic free range, native breed, pork & sausages from the Enterkine Estate in Ayrshire A Fruit & Vegetable Stall - Sorry they didn't let us know who And for the non foodies... Mulligan Publishing - A local artist doing some really pretty work across a variety of formats. It looks like a really nice, varied line up & of course some there are still stalls available so we may well see some last minute additions to this line up.
See you there! |
