 Summer Gala 2009

The LAN initiated a small scale art installations around Brayford Waterfront for Lincoln Summer Gala, July 18th, 2009.

Helen Dearnley installed a series of mirrors around the Waterfront location, relating to the theme of The Lady of Shalott, a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson.
Events surrounding the anniversary of Tennyson's birth were scheduled over Summer 2009, and the mirrors are site specific to the parts of the poem, written backwards in the mirrors.
The Lady of Shalott can only view the world through a mirror, and Helen has personally been exploring this idea following on and developing a train of thought from previous work relating to exploration of Jean Baudrillard's theories of Simulacra and Simulation.

This has been followed up by the creation of a Lady Of Shalott doll. The Lady of Shalott doll formed an additional part of this installation, further details are available on this blog.
