On October 2nd 2009 the LAN was
launched globally as part of

Twit

project.

                                 The Art Charter

Lincoln Artist’s Network was set up in January 2009 as a network for graduates and undergraduates of Lincoln University, in order to continue a professional working practicin and around Lincoln and Lincolnshire, alongside established local artists, businesses that are interested in investing in the creative industries, to create and facilitate a community that will benefit everyone involved. Initially this currently consists of a Facebook group and occasional planning meetings, which we hope will extend to incorporate several ventures, for the benefit of existing graduates and future students, to engage with the wider local community and continue to practice as local based artists. The LAN wishes to develop links within the wider East Midlands community, nationally and internationally. The LAN aims to overcome challenges faced by local artists with limited paid opportunities available for artists locally, rejecting unpaid internships and work "opportunities" that are exploitative to artists, and advocating fairly paid work for all. If nothing happens, basically that means we won't work for free. However, we will waive our fees for in-kind support at galleries etc.

Lincoln Artist’s Network currently has over 100 members, teachers from local Lincoln schools and other creative professionals, students and graduates based in Lincoln. We welcome artists from other areas, and of any discipline.

Rationale:

The Lincoln Artist’s Network  forms the basis of the following ventures:

To facilitate site-specific art installations and temporary exhibitions within the city of Lincoln, with the support and promotion of local business, media and the local community.

To set up artist’s studios, an empty shop network, and to re-open the Uni Art Shop as an artist led venture.

To ensure inclusive opportunities for artists who are also parents, with childcare provision where necessary.

To collaborate for group shows, exhibitions, both within the group, and as the group expands with other local,

national and international artists.

To encourage and create opportunities for contemporary artists and organisations in order to incorporate artist led activity within the city and beyond.

The Lincoln Artists' Network will support and sustain graduates and undergraduates of Lincoln University and artists practising in the wider community. It will create business opportunities within the local area and improve links between the University and wider Lincolnshire and East Midlands area.

The studios will create a hub of activity within which artists can create individual work within the support of a group, and collaborate for exhibitions with essential professional support from peers. Hopefully this will engage artists to continue working locally after graduation and connect with the wider artistic community.

The LAN was set up with funding from Enterprise Inc as a non-profit organisation, and welcomes support from individuals and local organisations.
