I'm a Russian Ukrainian Gypsy British artist, scientist, and a housewife.
As an artist I aspire to bring colorful glimpses of other worlds and other times to life.
I like creating figurative story-telling works reminding illustrations from books never written or still images from non-existing films. I also enjoy painting lanscapes, still life, portraits, animals and abstract pictures. I use wide range of media (soft & oil pastels, acrylic, oil, pen and ink, pencils, digital, photography, textile, found objects) and their combination.
My artworks will take you on a journey to distant and mysterious lands where no one has been before. I love things ethnic, period, retro, unusual, elegant, sophisticated, exotic, nostalgic, intricate, old traditional, vintage, anything which give you that "long ago and far away" or "lost in time and space" feeling.
The subject of my paintings often lies somewhere in between the existing world and imaginary realms. Even if I am inspired originally by trees in a local park I like to bring them to life as colorful glimpses of other worlds existing only in my imagination. I am also finding my inspiration in the beauty and mystery of nature, human made artifacts, my favorite music, poetry and stories, my former planetary science/geography work and my journeys to places like full of crystals caves in Turkmenia and hot beaches of Thailand, stormy White sea and idyllic Carpathians, awesome Grand Canyon and beautiful Hawaii, weathered Northern Russian villages and underwater coral forests, picturesque British countryside and busy Paris, sky scraping New York and snow covered plains of Central Asia...
At the same time I believe that everyone is unique and should have in this life an unique and special place called Home and with my art I hope to help finding that bright center of the Universe for you.
For me is not very interesting just to follow up successful painting with similar work, instead I always challenging myself to do one of the kind pieces using different combination of media and subjects. The only way I can continue doing painting is to sell artwork - and that often mean earning 3-10 pounds for a piece which took many hours of work to complete. Being a EII, I cannot price or market my work very well neither can I easily tell if its good enough. This of course is compensates by my wild imagination, determination to hard work and, hopefully, a big heart.
I receive lots of good feedback for my artworks yet for many they are "too modern" or "too traditional", "not fine art as it is a fantasy" or "not original artwork if its includes digital elements". Having young children, living in a rural area, and being environmentally friendly artist without a car and trying to live an organic life poses additional challenges. Plus there is always a feeling of deep alienation as I was born far away from where I live, no friends or relatives nearby and not much common interests with most locals.
However I can't imagine myself quitting art so I'll keep going & Per aspera ad astra / Post tenebras lux
