Creating a life long learner

I am passionate about teaching for many reasons but two in particular are very important.  The first is the lack of positive african american role models, teachers in particular.  There is a national crisis with a shortage of qualified minority teachers. I would like to be a role model to all students and help reduce the nations crisis.  Some children lack role models to encourage them to dream big.  I would like students to know the importance of a good education and to be a cheerleader for those students who don't always finish first.

Secondly, I want to give back to my community and and make a positive educational difference in the lives of children.  To quote John F Kennedy " To those whom much is given, much is expected."  I have been given much in my life and I want to give back to my community.  I can no longer watch the news and criticize the youth who are getting in trouble.  I have to ask myself, "what am I doing about it?"  I want to be part of the solution.

My overall mission as a teacher is to develop a strong foundation for lifelong learning. I believe a childs foundation starts in the early years.  Setting an educational foundation is important and will last a lifetime.  As a teacher my goal is to inspire students with excitement, enthusiasm, creativity and motivation.
