Guidelines for members
Don't be shy about expressing your personal opinions. Just remember: You take personal responsibility for what you post.
Challenge Ideas, not Individuals. Unless otherwise stated, opinions and views expressed in the group are deemed as personal ones, rather than from any organisation or employer.
If you're unsure if your message would be seen as SPAM, feel free to seek a second opinion with the group administrator. Otherwise, post at your own risk!
Upon joining the group, do post a self-introduction (again, please don't be shy, we know you want to!) NOTE: The "group owner" just means "the person who maintains this mailing list". That's it. There's no "leader" or "chairperson" for the 'Librarians In Singapore' group.
There's also a similar networking site at Facebook, maintained by Hazman Aziz. [Note: This Googlegroup and the Facebook page are separate sites, with different owners and probably different set of members. Postings are not automatically duplicated. But we share the same networking agenda.] | An informal networking group for librarians living & working in
Singapore. But you DON'T have to be Singaporean or even a librarian.
Join us if you're interested/ curious about "Libraries and Librarians". Feel free to post questions, comments etc. Or just lurk around (like 80% of email-list members do!)Group details/ Sign-up here. Contact the Group Admin here. "Libraries
need to look at social software applications as valuable tools for
communicating with and serving their current patrons, as well as
attracting new library patrons... ... Social software can also help
libraries position themselves as the online hub of their communities.
Technology can make libraries more relevant to people who think they
can get all their information from the Web, while attracting a brand
new population to the library." Social Software in Libraries: Building Collaboration, Communication and Community Online" by Meredith Farkas (2007) There
are lots of informal mailing groups started by, and for, librarians and
administrators. But none in Singapore. For some reason, I felt compelled
to email to a few Liblogarians (i.e. Librarians who blog) and seek
their opinions about starting one. Two responded, and that was good
enough to just get something going : ) Maybe they should. But they haven't. So we'll start one. Welcome to the age of Social Media :) Seriously
though, not everyone is a LAS member, or want to/ can become one. The
purpose of this group is to allow librarians AND and non-librarians to
network (could be in Singapore or overseas). We're not trying to be
another LAS. This is just a mailing list, started by librarians, to
discuss library-related matters (the occasional personal post now and then
wouldn't hurt either). WHAT'S THE PURPOSE OF THIS GROUP? WHAT CAN BE DISCUSSED?Networking is first. The rest will come naturally. (See "Guidelines for this group" at the side bar) NOTE: The "group owner" just means "the person who maintains this mailing list". That's it. There's no "leader" or "chairperson" for the 'Librarians In Singapore' group.
