Republicans

I have heard the 55th District is a "Republican" seat.  Really?  I always thought it belonged to the people of the 55th District.

Unfortunately, many in Jefferson City think it belongs to them -- not to the people.  While I admire those with strong political tendencies (I am a recovering Democrat, myself), I do question blind loyalty and in ceding your money, power, and influence to a certain group.  Once gone, it's tough to get back.

Consider your party's position on many issues -- and consider the record of Republicans who have "held" this seat -- of not voting for any tax increases.  That's great, right?  But how many times have they voted to reduce the size and cost of government?  How many opportunities has the Republican majority in Jefferson City had to ease the burden on your paycheck, your business, or your family -- then not followed through?

How about an analogy?  Picture someone's hands are firmly gripping your neck -- you are not choking, but it's not very comfortable, right?  Now, think about them telling you that they have NEVER squeezed harder and vow NOT to do so -- does that make it okay?  Now consider this -- why don't they just "let go" so you can go on with your life?  The "why" is that power, money, and influence that flows from your paycheck, your taxes, and your votes are important to them and they want to keep them.  Don't vote for the candidate that vows never to loosen his grip on your throat (wallet, paycheck, etc.); consider voting for a candidate that vows to LET GO!

Don't blame the incumbent for this problem, though -- he answers to the state Republican party, not to you.  That's one of the reasons I ran for this seat and will again in 2010 -- to represent  you in Jefferson City, not to represent the Libertarian Party or any other special interest group.  For true change, WE must change, and that includes how we vote and how we look at government.

I challenge you to consider all the issues -- you know how I'm going to vote on every one of them (smaller government, lower taxes, more freedom and less regulation), then look at the Republican's platform; I'm certain you won't be comfortable with what you see -- and that means it's time to consider true change.
