I admit it -- I am a recovering Democrat. As a fiscal conservative, the continued emphasis toward more and more social spending at the expense of defense of this country and basic human rights, really bothered me. And the Republican party? No way I had much in common with the neo-conservatives who love spending money on their new police state and the further attack on our rights. So what's a man to do? Review all the options, and make a decision. Am I comfortable with every platform plank in the Libertarian Party? Not exactly -- but they are consistent in their approach and belief in the Constitution and in ensuring all Americans have those rights. No eroding them by pitting one group against another, no forced charity to do what private charities do much better (more effectively and efficiently and at less overhead cost) than the government. Gone are the days Harry Truman would be comfortable in the skin of a Democrat -- (yes, that's just my opinion). How many Harry Truman's are there in the Senate these days to push for cost savings and accountability during wartime? The Republicans and their police state have you scared out of your minds to dare question a thing -- something Libertarians don't even flinch at! I challenge you to truly consider voting Libertarian, for a number of reasons. First and foremost, if your main reason for being a Democrat is to help those in need, private charity by generous Americans provides more direct social and welfare services than government; shouldn't you be working hardest where you have the more favorable impact? Second, a smaller, less expensive government simply won't have the means to impose someone else's social or morality codes on you. And third, the urban liberals ownership of the party and its platform is driving people away -- most into the welcoming arms of Republicans, but you and I are simply not going to fit into that camp.
