Hello! I am Kevin Parr, Libertarian from Grain Valley, Missouri -- I was your Libertarian candidate for State Representative in 2008. I was born in 1963 and will turn 45 less than a month before the election. I am a recovering Democrat and am proud to put the Libertarian platform in front of the People of the 55th District. I am confident most will agree with some of the principles, many will agree with a lot of them, a few will agree with most, and some will agree with them all. Whatever your particular view of government, I trust you would agree that there would be few if any in the district that believe they are not paying enough in taxes, that there are few if any that believe that government is just too small, and few if any that believe we have too many freedoms. Those three things -- smaller government, lower taxes, and more freedoms are why I made a run for office; I want people to know they don't have to choose the lesser of two evils (all you get is evil, no matter how you vote). I graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1981, then went off into the world, attended college, had a few different jobs, then joined the US Navy in 1986 as a Cryptologic Technician. After schools in Florida and Texas, I headed off to Guam, then to Washington DC and spent a brief bit of time in the Persian Gulf (1990-1991). I left the Navy in 1992 and graduated from The University of Central Missouri (old CMSU) in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science, then started work in government human resources. I graduated from The University of Missouri -- Kansas City in 1999 with a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree in Urban Affairs, and continued my career in government HR. In 2003 I transitioned to risk management, and found my niche -- I now work with local governments to help them administer their risk management programs -- helping reduce incidents and costs. I joined the US Navy (reserve component) in 2003 as an enlisted cryptologist, and then was commissioned as an officer in 2004. Currently, I am a Lieutenant (O-3) in the Navy and am assigned to the US Navy Information Operations Command -- St. Louis, where I serve as the Assistant Officer-in-Charge (OIC) and Operations Officer (OpsO) of the Unit's Remote Drill Site at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. I am fortunate to serve with many outstanding Sailors, both commissioned and enlisted -- I am proud of my Unit's dedication to duty and work hard to remain focused on the Navy's core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. I live in Grain Valley (703 NW Baytree Circle), and work full-time from an office in Kansas City, Missouri. I am also the proud owner and founder of my own small business -- Great Plains Risk Management LLC -- where I work part-time providing human resources, workplace safety consulting, and driver training (for new drivers). Yes, that means I work three jobs! It also means my annual tax filing is getting more complicated! So -- you read all this and are thinking, "Wait just a minute! Aren't Libertarians just a bunch of wild-eyed, drugged out, former hippies and disgruntled Republicans?" If you see any of those tendencies in me or most Libertarians, you would not be correct. The two wings (Republican and Democrat) of the Party of Big Money certainly cast those dispersions on us, but they are not true of all Libertarians -- just like not all Republicans are thieves (Duke Cunningham) and not all Democrats are liars (Bill Clinton). Cast the net wide enough and you will haul yourself up in the catch! I challenge you to take the World's Smallest Political Quiz -- and find out just how "libertarian" you really are; and if you are a libertarian, I then challenge you to vote like a libertarian!
