There are many misconceptions and much stereotyping of homosexuals, particularly in the United States. One of the biggest and problematic misunderstandings involves homosexuals and AIDS. When AIDS was first medically identified in America in 1982, it was vastly known as a homosexual disease. However it has long been apparent that the disease affects heterosexuals as well. Today, some studies estimate that worldwide, more women are infected with AIDS than man. Condoms help prevent AIDS from both heterosexual and homosexual sex. Just in 2006, in Vancouver, a 28-page pamphlet condemning homosexuality and attributing it to the spread of AIDS. Despite much protest, the pamphlet was deemed appropriate. Its title was, “This Plague of the 21st century: The Consequences of the Sin of Homosexuality. (AIDS) Many people suggest that AIDS is a punishment from god onto sinners. However simple following of biblical logic could not explain the innocent people who get infected through blood transfusions, nor would it explain married women receiving it from their husbands.
