For All Waddell Students: The following site lists all educational web sites recommended by Lexington City School's teachers. On the side bar on the home page you can click on "Kendall" or "math" for sites that I have recommended: http://delicious.com/lexedu For students in Grades 3 to 5 CLICK HERE (NOTE: Younger students who have mastered the games below should also try some of these.) For students Pre-K through Second Grade CLICK HERE FOR DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF ON-LINE COMPUTER GAMES Interactive Number Games http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/maths/interactive/ Recommended Games: "Funky Mummy" (addition with single digit numbers) and "Funky Mummy 20" (addition with sums up to 20) Let me know if your child enjoys other games on this site (kkendall@lexedu.org) - our internet filter that blocks non-academic games blocks some of the games on this site and I need to know if any are worth adding to our list of acceptable sites. From BBC for Children: "Count Hoot's Numbers Games" - this game allows students the opportunity to work on addition, subtraction, or both with three levels of difficulty to choose from. What I like best about this game is that it uses both numbers represented as dots on the back of ladybugs and then progresses with larger numerals. In addition, the higher levels leave an addend missing, to raise the challenge level (9 + ____ = 16, for example). This game has a series of carnival rides with a line of passengers. The rides will only run if the individual cars on the Ferris wheel, roller coaster, and tea cup ride are full. One ride has one seat per car, another 2, and the third 3. The student needs to divide up 14 passengers so that at least one car of each ride is full and then distribute the remaining passengers so that there are no half-filled cars. This one is sometimes a challenge for adults ... most of the kids did very well with it. There is a more difficult level with four rides to add another layer of challenge. Some of the games have little to no relation to math. The best games ask students to work with numbers in unique ways and BlockOrz is a fantastic game of spatial reasoning that is challenging (and addicting) for kids and adults alike. Click the "Measurement" tab to find the games that range in difficulty from half hours, to 15 minute intervals, to 1 minute intervals. ______________________________________________________________________________ AOL's Homework Help Junior has always been a great central to link to enrichment sites in all subject areas, but they have redesigned the site and I am still trying to figure out the changes. I have listed the link below but please e-mail me (kkendall@lexedu.org) if you find particular sites that are favored by your child: http://kids.aol.com/homework-help/junior CLICK HERE FOR DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF ON-LINE COMPUTER GAMES _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Students in Grades 2 - 5 particularly enjoy the challenge of the following math sites: Johnnie's Math Page http://jmathpage.com/ To get to the upper levels of "Power Lines" go to the "Fun" tab on Johnnie's Math Page and input the password 321123.
