RECOMMENDED MATH GAMES

The following games used in the Math Mentor program are available from www.mugginsmath.com:

“Knock Out” - recommended for K-2 students for reinforcement of addition and subtraction facts.

“Muggins” – recommended for students in grades 3-5.  Great strategy game that requires manipulation of math of facts and all four basic math operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  Multiple “answers” are possible at each turn.  All the students love this one and students who resist memorizing math facts find themselves at a distinct disadvantage and begin to work harder on acquiring that baseline knowledge so that they are more successful at the game.  This one is fun for teenagers and adults too.

“Opps” – recommended for students in grades 5 and up.  This game is very similar to “Muggins”, but gets into positive and negative integers.  It’s a tough challenge for kids and adults alike.

“The 24 Game” requires manipulating 4 numbers to get a result of 24 using all four basic math operations.  There are also 24 game primers for younger students and advanced games that get into fractions, decimals, exponents, and variables.  See www.24game.com

A visual-spatial game that I would recommend is “SET,” which you can play on-line at www.setgame.com
