Dear Dr. Lyons and School
Board Members:
Previous reports to the
school board have included parent feedback to a survey and a number of those
responses that indicated a need to improve communication. During the 2009-10 school year the following
actions were taken to address those concerns:
- Parent permission forms for any pull-out group
included a description of the program, expectations of students, and
meeting time(s) for the group went out prior to the start of each program.
- A new web site for the gifted education program
was created by Mr. Kendall including grade level curriculum updates,
recommended web sites for students and parents, and an announcements page
with information about writing contests, Saturday and summer enrichment
programs, and updates on state regulations for gifted education.
- Progress reports with detailed narrative feedback
on individual student progress were sent home in December and May. Interim updates on curriculum were
posted on the web site.
The following summary report
reviews the results of a parent survey that requested feedback on the content
of the gifted education web site. In
addition parents were asked to provide narrative feedback on the following two
questions:
- What are the 3 best things about the Lexington
City Schools’ Gifted Education Program?
- What 3 recommendations would you make to improve
Lexington City Schools’ Gifted Education Program?
A total of 49 parents responded to the e-mailed
invitation to participate in the on-line survey, which was designed to take
between 10 and 20 minutes to complete.
