Lexington City Schools Program Update
Progress reports for students participating in pull-out enrichment groups will be distributed via e-mail on the following schedule:
1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade - week of Feb. 6 Kindergarten - week of Feb 13
Lexington City School Board approved the 2012-17 Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted at its Nov. 14 meeting. Thank you to the present and past members of the Gifted Advisory Committee for their invaluable assistance in creating this plan for the school district. Click HERE to view the plan.
"Grade Level Updates" will be posted by the 1st and 15th of each month. These updates, outlining curriculum for pull-out groups, include general program objectives as well as specific lesson objectives. Since many of the skill objectves are process skills that take weeks (or months) to master they don't lend themselves well to "Monday folder" communication. When you do see a math paper with my name on it you know it was something covered during pull-out instruction with me. Otherwise your best way to stay up to date is to check the web site twice a month. As always, feel free to contact me with your questions (kkendall@lexedu.org).
Fourth and fifth grade math pull-outs will be done through flexible grouping. Students will take pretests and post-tests for most units and students who demonstrate over 90 percent mastery of skills covered in a particular unit may be pulled out once a week for additional enrichment. Language arts enrichment at fourth and fifth grade occurs through ability-based reading groups in the regular classroom. Novels are selected to provide appropriate levels of challenge in vocabulary, concepts, and themes. An emphasis on literary analysis, including writing style and voice, is central to reading group discussions. If you have additional questions please contact me. Kevin Kendall, Ed.S.
