Lewis and Clark Parent Involvement Plan

  • Writing goals out with parents that address how the parent is going to help the child meet their goal through at home activities. Invite families to be involved in school decision making.
  • Three for me program, letting parents know that even the smallest thing counts as parent involvement as well as being at the school.
  • Educational Workshops and or Parenting Workshops
  • Math, Reading, and Science Nights
  • Parent Involvement Certification Celebration
  • Additional ways to communicate with families through school website

Parent Involvement Policy

Lewis and Clark Elementary

Policy-Lewis and Clark staff and families understand the importance of engaging parents in the academic process.  A child’s education is the responsibility of shared by the school and family.

 

Inclusion- Lewis and Clark staff and families encourage active parent involvement.  Lewis and Clark staff and families recognize the responsibility to minimize barriers that impede family involvement such as: language and culture, economics, family needs, parenting strengths. We will strive to make Lewis and Clark Elementary school an inviting place for all families.

 

Standards: Lewis and Clark staff and families recognize the 6 standards of parent involvement through National PTA, and will address each standard in the following ways:

 

Standard I: Welcoming all families into the school

  • Create events that are family friendly and incorporate learning for parent child activities
  • Encourage parent child relationships through organized school events that nurture relationships.
  • Adapt to cultural differences in community for example: Montana School for the Deaf and Blind families and students, Malmstrom Air Force Base families and students, Native American Community, English Language Learner families and students, families and children from diverse income levels.
  • Family Resource has been established for parents to come and use the internet and other resources involving parenting and children.

Standard II: Communicating effectively

  • Information for parents will be delivered via Wednesday envelopes, on our school web page, reader board and from teachers.
  • Information will be provided to parents that is in understandable language and is meaningful.
  • Information to parents will be given in a timely manner and will be in written or oral form from the school.

Standard III: Supporting student success

  • Provide information through back to school nights, parent workshops on academic achievement, science, math and reading nights.
  • Provide reading program that involves logging hours read with parents or family member at home.
  • Provide goal setting opportunities with students, parents and teachers at parent teacher conferences.

Standard IV: Speaking up for every child

  • Open door policy for parent involvement and concerns
  • Support learning on a variety of levels with parent input
  • Three for me program endorsed by Lewis and Clark PTA and parent resource room available for family activities and volunteer opportunities

Standard V: Sharing power

  • Goals for student achievement at conferences that integrate input from teachers, parents and students
  • Provide opportunities for parents to be involved in PTA committees, board positions and parent involvement activities
  • Parents involved in Title I five year plan

Standard VI: Collaborating with community

  • Collaborate with medical community to provide health information for families and students
  • Collaborate with corporate sponsorship to enhance learning opportunities at Lewis and Clark Elementary
  • Provide information to parents on legislative issues and health issues related to children and families
