Washington, D.C.

At Kingsway Christian School, this trip is really the culmination of a student's years spent with us.  All the learning, hard work, and celebration are put together in a five day exploration of our nation's capitol.  But what goes into the preparation for this trip?  Um . . . . a lot!

These students have learned about our nation's history and their involvement in other nations' history over their years at KCS.  Our eighth grade history teacher, language arts teacher, and I have worked together to make the weeks leading up to "D.C." as meaningful as we can.  In order to do this, we focus on the sites we will explore during our trip.  Some parts of our trip are covered earlier in the year (noted in parentheses):
  • Gettysburg Battlefield (December)
  • World War II - Vietnam
  • Memorials
  • Government buildings (August/September)
  • Holocaust Museum

The lessons in this unit are meant to enhance our students' experiences in Washington, D.C., with the specific emphasis being World War II.  Included are specific lessons on the Holocaust (including student samples), trip reflection journals and photo journals (including student samples), and the trip blog (with actual photographs and videos).
