Africa Platform on Development Effectiveness
At the 1st Africa Regional Meeting of March 2010 in Pretoria agreed to setup an African driven and owned platform focusing
on the 3 inter-related themes of Aid Effectiveness, South-South Cooperation and
Capacity Development. In July 2010 the Kampala
15th African Union Summit endorsed
the setup of the Africa Platform under the coordination of NEPAD Agency in
conjunction with the AUC. The Platform is to
catalyze mutual learning and exchanges on commendable practices for input into
policy-decision processes relating to Africa’s desire to achieve development
effectiveness. As a first step, the Platform will be instrumental to Africa’s
coherent preparation for 2011 Busan HLF4 through the forthcoming Tunis 2nd Regional Meeting from 4-5
November 2010. While paying attention to AE and SSC agendas, the Africa-wide
Platform is an important mechanism offering opportunity and space to mobilize
for capacity development action. > more
Capacity Development Learning Package
Emerging understanding about the need for new approaches to CD is creating diverse needs for learning and change for development actors at all levels. There is also growing recognition that capacity and its development are areas of knowledge, skills and practice in their own right. The purpose of the package is to provide learning opportunities to practitioners at sub-/regional, country and sector level who want to change and improve their practice in order to become more effective supporters of CD. The package modules will contain materials that can be used
freely to facilitate and inform multi stakeholder processes through the identification
of suitable capacity development strategies and approaches.
A working group is being established of organizational partners interested to contribute to the development, testing and dissemination of learning modules. If you are interested please contact Thomas.THEISOHN@gmail.com > more
Rationalizing the CD Knowledge Architecture
Capacity Development related knowledge is expanding rapidly. Increased recognition of the strategic importance of capacity development has led donor and development agencies to increase the documentation of effective practices, production of training modules, publication of research, and the creation of professional communities of practice. These diverse collections of information and expertise represent the growing knowledge base on capacity development. There is a great amount of knowledge available from an expanding list of web sites, yet the main challenge limiting our individual and collective impact is that these web sites are still relatively fragmented and lacking significant connection to each other. > more LenCD facilitates learning and promotes good practice in capacity development.
