PAQs (Possibly Asked Questions)

Because who are we to say what questions will be asked most frequently?

Q: Why is such an exciting book series consigned to a Google Site?
A: Donaya Haymond is afflicted by the double whammy of (a) being a fledgeling novelist, and (b) being a college student. Thus she has not the funds for a real programmer to build a real page with its own domain. Anyone interested in changing this situation is welcome to message her and finagle details.

Q: What storytellers have most influenced Donaya Haymond's writing?
A: Joss Whedon, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, and Sally Odgers.

Q: I have an urge to contact Donaya Haymond. What is the best way to do this?
A: There are several ways, depending on your definition of "best". Should you have a mere witticism to share, commenting on this site would be simple and direct (anything abusive - rather than merely critical - will be laughed heartily over and then deleted). Long and/or private communications should go to haymondd@yahoo.com. If your desire is combined with one for getting regular updates on Laconia, become a fan of the "Legends of Laconia, USA" Facebook page.

Q: Will she friend me on Facebook herself?
A: Alas, no. She has no doubt that you are a valuable, sensitive human being, who is hopefully both consumerist and a bibliophile, but she likes to keep her private self separate from the wider world.

Q: Who is the admin of this site?
A: You know, that could be a highly metaphysical question. Who are you, in your heart of hearts?

Q: That's not an answer.
A: That's not a question.

Q: Are the books in a similar writing style to this page?
A: No. Not usually.

Q: What is Donaya Haymond's attitude towards fanfic and fanart?
A: Few things could make her happier. She will read all fanfic and view all art sent to her - eventually - and will also trawl Fanfiction.net and DeviantArt under her old screennames. She started out by writing fanfic herself before building the confidence for originals. With permission, the admin will post fanworks...which is a word...now...on this site. The well-done ones. If necessary, she will make a separate "Here Be Sex & Violence" page. And if anyone starts a LiveJournal kink meme, Donaya will include a link, and might even post anonymously. These would make especially good birthday (and Christmas and Hanukkah and Ramadan and Holi and Yule and Lunar New Year...) presents.

Q: When is Donaya Haymond's birthday?
A: October 7.

Q: How many books are there in the series total?
A: She just finished the last one, book 12.  They range in length from 35,000 or so words (like Halloween Romance), pocket sized, to 75,000 later on, still something you can hold open in one hand while brushing your teeth, dressing, and eating breakfast.

Q: Is there a theme to it all?
A: Besides following three Laconia-based, interconnected families through several generations, the series asks, "What does it mean to be human?"

Q: How many fans did she have online at Fanstory.com, Fictionpress.com, and Fanfiction.net before this whole new era?
A: Dozens of fans. Bakers' dozens. They come in thirteens.

Q: Will there be books after this series?
A: She has drafts of scenes for first non-Laconia book and ideas for stories after that. She is also slowly building a collection of short stories, poems, and mini-scripts. Scriptlets. She's never made any longer than the one that would take half an hour to perform.

Q: What advice does Donaya Haymond have for aspiring authors, particularly the young?
A: Read more than you watch TV. Get a copy of Writer's Market if you can. Deal with each rejection by sending out another submission. Throughout, love your work more than you love pride or free time. She is open to further questions on an individual basis.

Q: How can I ensure that all her novels get deals?
A: Buy the first two with gusto, then spread the word.

Q: Okay, I've read the books or have loved ones who are fans of the books. In any case, I seek merchandise. Where can I find it?
A: http://www.cafepress.com/donayahaymond
