The price of gas is hurting everyone including people who drive their car on the Interstate to go to work. Enacting this petition will help middle class citizens who ride their bicycle to work on a consistent basis. 2. The first concern that people have when mentioning this idea to them is that it's not safe riding your bicycle on the Interstate. This isn't true. I feel more safe riding my bike on the side of the highway more so than riding on a county road or a back road. The side of Interstate Highways contain about 10-15 feet of space which is more than enough to ride a bicycle. 3. The advances in road bicycles have made it easy to ride long distances. The advent of producing a bicycle that is made of a carbon fiber frame has enabled a much more comfortable and smooth ride over long distances. Carbon Fiber frames absorb vibrations that come from riding a bicycle and make it easier to pedal longer and stronger. Cyclists nowadays commonly ride up to 100 plus miles at a time and still feel good enough the next day to do it again. The bikes of yesteryear were so uncomfortable it wasn't possible to do that. Some cyclists do 400-600 miles per week on a bicycle. That's way more than most Americans commute to work each week in a car. Cars that are made from Carbon fiber have been know to get up to 100+mpg with a hybrid engine along with plugins and etc. However, these cars are not being mass produced. 4. The car companies have been dragging their feet for 50 years to produce a quality electric car and mass produce it. If you've ever seen the dvd "Who killed the electric car" You know what I'm talking about. 5. It's good exercise! Current working class people are used to spending long hours indoors with poor air quality while working. This becomes even worse in the summer. Getting fresh air and exercise will help us get in shape and avoid becoming another statistic. 6. It's good for the environment. Help us beat Global Warming! 7. Not pumping gas on May 15th? Get real, that's not going to help over the long run. 8. Just buying gas from the oil companies that aren't the largest won't help either. #7, #8 don't satisfy supply and demand to bring the prices down. 9. If motorcycles in California can ride on the dotted line in between cars on highways why can't we ride bicycles on Interstate Highways? 10. Political unrest in the middle East and Oil Producing countries, what else is new? 11. Auto Industry bailout ? Are you Serious? |
